Tomarket Shifts from TON to Aptos for Token Launch

Tomarket, an engaging game that has taken Telegram by storm, is shifting gears from its initial plan to issue its token on The Open Network (TON). The game, boasting 50 million total users and 6 million daily users, has opted to launch its TOMA token on the Aptos network, a rival layer-1 blockchain.

The launch is slated for December 20, with Tomarket planning an airdrop for players who have met specific in-game criteria. These criteria, while not explicitly stated, suggest that the most engaged and active users will be rewarded for their loyalty and participation.

In the lead-up to this launch, Tomarket has been distributing allocations of TOMA tokens across several airdrop waves. However, players have not been able to withdraw or trade these tokens. The developers initially stated that the TOMA token had been generated, but later clarified that they were referring to token allocations within the game. As a result, the game’s native currency, TOMA, will not be deployed on TON as initially planned.

A core team member of Tomarket, known only as Miles, explained the decision to Decrypt. “Aptos’ high-speed and reliable infrastructure provides the scalability Tomarket needs to support its growing user base while delivering smooth, efficient blockchain experiences.”

Once the token launch takes place next week, Tomarket intends to broaden its horizons considerably. Players can expect more games to be introduced, enhancements to the FarmingPool rewards program, and the launch of a decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator.

TON has been the preferred choice for many Telegram-based crypto games, including industry heavyweights like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin. Their adoption of TON has significantly contributed to the chain’s growth this year, with TON now ranking as the 16th most valuable cryptocurrency by market cap, according to CoinGecko data. Over the past year, the price of TON has risen by approximately 190%.

However, Tomarket is not the first game to deviate from the norm. MemeFi, a popular tap-to-earn combat game, recently chose to launch its token on the Sui network, after initially planning to use the Ethereum layer-2 network, Linea. This shift in preference highlights the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the blockchain gaming industry.

This article was edited by Andrew Hayward. The move by Tomarket to opt for Aptos over TON underscores the importance of adaptability in the crypto gaming world, where the choice of platform can significantly impact the game’s performance and user experience.
