Justin Sun Unlocks 5,000 stETH for First Time in a Year

An Ethereum address linked to Tron founder Justin Sun has moved for the first time in about a year. On-chain data shows the address 0x176…0a132 requested to unlock 5,000 stETH through Lido. At the time of the transaction, those tokens were worth about $12.3 million. It is the first time Sun has unlocked that amount of stETH in roughly a year. The address had shown little movement over that period, which makes this unlock stand out even more. The reason for the move is not clear yet.

What the on-chain data shows

Lido is a liquid staking protocol. Users deposit ETH and receive stETH in return. That token represents their staked position and earns rewards over time. When someone wants to get back the original ETH, they can submit a redemption request. Large redemption requests often get attention because they may indicate upcoming selling pressure. But redemption is not the same as a sale.

According to available data, the address tied to Sun still holds around 243,000 stETH. That position is valued at roughly $600 million. After this latest unlock, the total dropped only slightly. In other words, the 5,000 stETH move is small compared to his overall holdings. Still, it matters because it breaks a long pattern of inactivity.

A few possible explanations

There are several ways to read this transaction. Sun might be repositioning assets, dealing with a liquidity need, or simply moving funds to another wallet. He could also be preparing to send the redeemed ETH to a centralized exchange, which would suggest a possible sale. Right now, there is no confirmation of that.

Market participants are likely to keep an eye on the address in the coming days. If the redeemed ETH ends up on an exchange, that could add selling pressure to the Ethereum market. If it stays in a wallet, the unlock may just be part of a routine reshuffle.

This is not investment advice. It is always hard to know what a large holder plans to do, and on-chain data only tells part of the story. For now, the sell-off question remains open.
