Developer activity remains a common way to gauge how healthy a blockchain network really is. It’s not the only metric, but it does tell you something about innovation, how sustainable the project might be over time, and whether people are still engaged. According to data from Santiment, Ethereum, BNB Chain (BNB), and Polygon are currently the top three when you look at developer activity over the last month. Others that made the top ten include Arbitrum, Optimism, Solana, Cosmos, Avalanche, Harmony, and Cardano.
Ethereum Still Leads, But Numbers Are Down
Ethereum sits at number one, as expected. Over the past 30 days, the network recorded about 263,300 developer activity events. That’s a noticeable drop of 40.29% compared to the previous period. The number of contributors also fell—down 13.23% to around 1,100. Not great, but it’s still far ahead of everyone else.
BNB Chain came in second with 121,800 events. That’s a 40.72% decline, and the contributor count dropped 17.62% to 603. Polygon rounded out the top three with 100,400 events—a 40.85% plunge—and 452 contributors, down 16.14%.
Arbitrum took fourth place with 79,000 events (down 45.22%) and 373 contributors (down 18.02%). Optimism wasn’t far behind: 78,400 events (down 45.3%) and 355 contributors (down 18.01%).
Solana, Avalanche, Harmony, and Cardano Round Out the List
Solana posted 77,400 events—a 32.14% decline—but interestingly, its contributor count rose slightly by 1.62% to 377. That small rise might signal some resilience, though overall activity is lower.
Avalanche came in eighth with 73,400 events (down 43.93%) and 320 contributors (down 15.34%). Harmony saw 62,900 events (down 39.45%) and 287 contributors (down 10.87%). Finally, Cardano brought up the rear with 62,600 events (down 34.58%) and 295 contributors (down 11.41%).
It’s worth noting that virtually all networks saw drops in both events and contributors. That’s probably more about the broader crypto market cooling off than anything specific to these chains. Still, developer activity remains one of the better signals for long-term viability. Whether those numbers rebound in the coming months is something to watch.
