Ambire Unveils ‘Ice’ Hardware Wallet Built for Safe Smart Accounts

Sofia, Bulgaria, October 30th, 2026, Chainwire

Ambire, a pioneer in self-custodial wallets, has unveiled Ambire Ice, an open-source hardware wallet built for Ambire and Safe smart accounts. Designed to make complex on-chain transactions easier to understand and verify, Ice combines on-device transaction decoding, dual secure-element key generation, offline signing capabilities, and transparent hardware to deliver a new approach to security for multisig operators, DAO treasuries, and advanced Ethereum users.

Unlike traditional hardware wallets that may present complex smart contract interactions as opaque signing requests, Ambire Ice is designed to reconstruct Safe transactions and display individual actions directly on its screen. Users can inspect transfers, token approvals, and batched operations before authorizing them, helping reduce the risks associated with signing transactions whose underlying execution is difficult to interpret.

Ambire Ice introduces several key security features:

  • On-Device Clear Signing: Decodes Safe transactions and displays individual actions, including transfers and approvals. It also includes warnings for changes to Safe owners, signature thresholds, and modules.
  • Post-Quantum Upgrade Path: The design anticipates future integration of post-quantum signing through an additional Safe owner, subject to further development and network support.
  • Dual Secure-Element Architecture: Combines NXP and Infineon secure elements to protect against various types of physical attacks.
  • Physical Airgap Switch: Disconnects USB data and cuts power to Bluetooth in hardware, enabling offline signing through animated QR codes. USB and Bluetooth connectivity remain optional.
  • Open-Source and Transparent Hardware: Provides inspectable hardware designs, board files, and firmware built on a fork of Trezor’s open-source code. Its transparent enclosure allows users to visually inspect internal components.

By combining transaction transparency with dedicated key protection and user-controlled connectivity, Ice aims to provide Safe users with a more understandable and inspectable hardware signing experience.

Ambire Ice preorders are open today, with 200 devices available for preorder on a first come, first serve basis. The device will be priced at $150, with the first preorder round offering the device at a discounted rate of $119 including a $10 deposit. Shipping is expected to begin in early 2027.

Users can preorder here.
