LOBSTR Becomes First Stellar Wallet Live With WalletConnect Pay

LOBSTR, the Stellar wallet built by Ultra Stellar, has gone live with WalletConnect Pay, making it the first wallet to offer the payments product on Stellar. Users can pay merchants directly from the wallet, without moving funds through a separate checkout app. The wallet has also been linked to the XRP Ledger community, though the immediate focus is Stellar payments.

A First for Stellar Wallets

WalletConnect Pay is meant to sit inside the wallet experience. A buyer scans or confirms a merchant payment and the transaction settles on Stellar. The setup may look simple on the surface, but it depends on wallet support and merchant tools working together. LOBSTR is the first to cross that line on Stellar. I think the detail matters because payments products often launch in docs before they reach real users. Here, at least, the wallet side is live.

How the Payment Flow Works

WalletConnect documentation describes a fee-sponsored design. In practice, the buyer does not need to cover the network fee for the payment. That can remove a small but annoying step at checkout. The merchant still needs a way to accept the payment, and the work around that side is not finished. The announcement also came with a partnership with Penrose Partners to bring the product to merchants in Bermuda.

Bermuda Rollout Still in Planning

The launch is tied to a wider push in Bermuda. The government is seeking to reduce merchants’ reliance on costly card services. A digital payment route on Stellar could offer an alternative, though it will need merchant adoption to mean much. The merchant side remains at the planning stage. How widely the integration is used will depend on rollouts such as the Bermuda programme, which is planned for 2027.

What Comes Next

For Stellar, the launch adds a working payments route at a point of sale. That is not the same as broad retail adoption. It gives the network another live use case, and it gives LOBSTR users a direct way to pay. The next test is whether merchants sign on and whether customers use it after the first announcement. For now, the wallet is live and the merchant plan is still taking shape.
