Jack Yi Says Crypto Market Echoes 2020 Setup
Jack Yi, founder of LD Capital, thinks the crypto market is starting to look like the period before the strong 2020 rally. In a social media post, Yi said recent Bitcoin price action suggests the uptrend is still intact. He noted Bitcoin rose for five straight days after an uptrend began on August 17. Then it entered a correction that lasted about 19 days from August 22. The pullback stayed within a roughly $6,000 range, which he called normal for an uptrend. Yi warned traders against shorting during an uptrend. He also suggested watching daily chart corrections and volatility instead of expecting straight-line gains. According to Yi, bull market signals are appearing in Bitcoin and in some regional altcoins and tokens. He said conditions increasingly resemble the setup before 2020’s big move. That view is not universal, and Bitcoin’s price can still shift quickly.
David Hoffman Sold All ETH and Moved Into Five Altcoins
The discussion gained more attention after details surfaced about Bankless co-founder David Hoffman. Hoffman had been a leading voice for Ethereum for about six years. In May, he announced he sold all of his ETH. He then put the money into five altcoins: VVV, NEAR, ZEC, HYPE, and LIT. New data reported by BlockBeats shows those picks have mostly left ETH behind. LIT gained 288%, ZEC rose 121%, while HYPE and VVV each climbed 55%. NEAR added 33%. Over the same period, ETH returned about 17%. The gap is notable, especially because Hoffman was once closely tied to Ethereum’s direction. His move does not prove altcoins will keep winning, but it does show how strong selected tokens have been during this stretch. Some of these gains may also reflect thin liquidity or higher risk, so the results should be read with care.
What the Two Stories Suggest
Yi’s comments and Hoffman’s trade point to the same broader question: whether capital is rotating from Bitcoin and Ethereum into smaller tokens. Bitcoin’s correction after a short rally fits past bull market patterns, though no two cycles are identical. Altcoins can post bigger gains, but they can also fall harder when sentiment turns. For now, traders are watching whether Bitcoin holds its uptrend and whether altcoin strength continues beyond a few names. The market looks more active than it did earlier this year, but that does not make the next move easy to predict. This is not investment advice.
