XRP Takes a Hit Despite Historic ETF Launch | Breaking Volume Records

XRP had what you might call a rollercoaster day on Sunday, and not the fun kind. The token dropped over 3% even though it just got its first US-listed ETF, which you’d think would be cause for celebration. Instead, it turned into a classic “buy the rumor, sell the news” situation.

The day started off decent enough, with XRP hanging around $3.00 for most of the session. But then around midnight, everything went sideways. The price crashed from about $2.97 down to $2.81 in what looked like a coordinated sell-off by big holders who decided to cash in their chips.

Here’s the weird part though: the new XRP ETF actually had an incredible launch. It pulled in $37.7 million in trading volume on its first day, making it the biggest ETF debut of 2025. That’s serious institutional interest right there. But instead of pushing the price higher, all that activity seemed to give the whales an opportunity to dump their positions.

The volume during that midnight crash was absolutely bonkers; 261 million tokens changed hands, which is about four times the normal daily average. When you see numbers like that, it usually means institutions are making major moves, and in this case, they were clearly selling.

What’s frustrating for XRP holders is that this sell-off happened right when things should have been looking up, with the Fed cutting rates and this major ETF milestone.

Conclusion

Despite a record-breaking ETF debut and favorable Fed rate cuts, XRP’s price tumbled as whales sold heavily, reminding investors that institutional interest doesn’t always translate into immediate price gains or stability.
