“The Issue of Over 157,000 Unconfirmed Bitcoin Transactions”

**Bitcoin Blockchain Congestion: Inscriptions Cause Thousands of Transactions to be Unconfirmed**

*Bitcoin Inscriptions Rear Their Heads Again*

In the past week, the Bitcoin blockchain has found itself facing a peculiar issue, with thousands of transactions pending confirmation. This backlog is a clear indication of the network congestion that has impacted the blockchain. But what has caused this sudden surge in unconfirmed transactions?

Earlier in 2023, the Bitcoin network experienced a surge in popularity of its own version of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) known as Inscriptions. These digital inscriptions quickly gained traction, leading to network congestion and a sharp increase in transaction fees. However, after a period of relative calm, the Inscriptions craze made a return on November 4-5, causing a spike in unconfirmed transactions.

On November 4, Bitcoin Inscriptions witnessed the second-highest daily volume, with over 433,000 inscriptions made on the blockchain. This surge in activity closely trailed the record set on September 15, when 440,760 inscriptions were recorded. The spike in Inscriptions led to a corresponding increase in BTC transaction fees, resulting in a significant backlog and an average fee of over $5.9, one of the highest levels in 2023.

According to data from YCharts, these high transaction fees have yet to return back down. The sudden resurgence in Inscriptions has been attributed to a few specific projects, including rats, GROK, stas, and DOG1. While there has been activity from other projects such as doge, insi, and rabs, the first four projects account for the largest portion of transactions.

**Over 157,000 Transactions Remain Unconfirmed**

The spike in Bitcoin Inscriptions, combined with higher transaction fees, has left over 157,000 BTC transactions unconfirmed on the blockchain. Mainly, these are transactions without priority, while high-priority transactions are being processed at an average fee of $3.38. This sizable backlog could take several days for miners to completely clear.

As of Tuesday, November 7, there has been a decline in Bitcoin inscriptions, with around 72,000 daily inscriptions. This suggests that space is being freed up for the backlog to be cleared. If the inscription figures continue to decline, miners will be able to clear the backlog faster. However, if there is another surge in inscriptions, it could further add to the already inconvenient backlog.

In the midst of this congestion, BTC bulls continue to hold above $34,000, as depicted in the Tradingview.com chart showcasing the transactions backlog.

The Bitcoin blockchain is currently grappling with the impact of a surge in Inscriptions, causing a substantial backlog of unconfirmed transactions. As the network continues to navigate this congestion, the hope is for miners to clear the backlog efficiently, enabling transactions to proceed smoothly once again.
