Maple Finance has about $280 million in XRP collateral tied to loans that were funded from Ethereum pools, according to its public disclosures. The figure matters because it gives XRP holders a reason to keep the token while borrowing stablecoins. It also makes the XRP Ledger’s DeFi reading look larger than the chain’s native lending activity alone.
Where the collateral sits
Maple’s syrupUSDC disclosure listed 142,766,086.05 XRP valued at $177.7 million. Its syrupUSDT disclosure listed 82,314,668.8 XRP valued at $102.5 million. Together, the reported balances total about 225 million XRP and $280.2 million in displayed collateral. DefiLlama put Maple’s XRPL allocation at $281.1 million and total XRPL DeFi value at roughly $318 million in the same retrieval window.
The adapter says loans are issued from Ethereum pools while collateral is custodied on XRP’s native chain. So this is native XRP supporting credit originated elsewhere, not a broad measure of all XRPL lending. The adapter also disables historical backfilling because its collateral metadata is current. That limits the chart’s history: current holdings cannot show when the XRP arrived or how much entered in an earlier period.
What maturities mean
Three displayed XRP-backed positions carry about $151.8 million in nominal stablecoin principal, with maturities in December and January. The collateral levels were 178.3% and 188.2% for the two USDC positions and 185.7% for the USDT position. Those cushions look comfortable today, but they depend on price and borrower behavior.
Maple’s default procedure says initial, margin-call, and liquidation loan-to-value levels are set for each loan at origination. A margin call starts a 12-to-24-hour timer and gives the borrower instructions to top up collateral or repay. Posting more XRP could raise the tokens committed to the loan. Paying down debt is another response and need not add XRP collateral. An uncured call or breached liquidation threshold can authorize a sale, turning pledged XRP into market supply.
Signals to watch
Renewals that keep XRP committed would be the stronger sign of durable credit use. Repayments followed by authorized releases would reduce the amount backing this credit. A lower dollar balance alone would be ambiguous because price changes can shrink collateral value without tokens leaving. The December and January maturities are concrete points to watch. Until then, Maple’s disclosures show XRP doing a financing job. Whether that job sustains demand beyond these loans will depend on borrowers still needing the token as collateral.
