## Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Suspends 2024 Presidential Campaign
### Bitcoin Backer Lacks Significant Voter Support?
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, a prominent Bitcoin advocate, recently announced the end of his campaign for the White House. Despite expressing gratitude for the experience and his commitment to improving the nation, Suarez has chosen to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Suarez, the first Republican contender to drop out, initially declared his candidacy with the condition that he would exit if he failed to meet GOP thresholds. While he believed he qualified, he was notably absent from the Milwaukee debate. This begs the question: Will Suarez persist with his low-support campaign?
On X (formerly Twitter), Suarez officially declared the suspension of his campaign. He conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity and his ongoing dedication to making the country a better place for all Americans.
The Miami mayor took immense honor in running for the US Presidency. As the sole Hispanic candidate vying for the party nomination, he saw it as an opportunity to give back to the nation. Inspired by the patriotic Americans he encountered during his campaign, Suarez viewed it as a chance to serve the country at the highest level of public service. Even though he did not make it to the first debate, he cherished the privilege of being near the stage with fellow candidates.
Despite his dedication and effort, Suarez lacked significant voter support. Reports suggest that the relatively small number of votes he received contributed to this lack of backing. While he managed to fulfill the donor requirements set by the RNC, his campaign’s strategies, such as distributing $20 gift cards to donors, accepting cryptocurrency donations, and organizing lotteries for opportunities to witness soccer legend Lionel Messi in play, failed to attract a substantial number of voters.
### Will Suarez Continue Championing Bitcoin?
Furthermore, Suarez’s future stance on Bitcoin remains uncertain. As a notable supporter and vocal advocate for the cryptocurrency, he even utilized it for donations during his presidential campaign. Known as an early adopter, he strongly opposed central bank digital currencies and expressed disapproval towards their development. In 2021, Suarez gained attention by announcing that he would accept his entire salary in Bitcoin, a move that generated significant interest. Whether he will continue supporting Bitcoin, as well as entertaining the idea of receiving his salary in cryptocurrency, remains unknown.
With Miami’s mayoral position holding limited power and its relatively small population compared to major cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, some analysts question the Miami mayor’s ability to attract broad public backing. While he won the 2017 mayoral election with a majority vote, it was based on a significantly small number of total votes, constituting just 11% of Miami’s registered voters.
As the 60th quadrennial US presidential election is set to take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Suarez’s departure from the race has left room for other contenders to step forward and gain momentum. The question that lingers is, who will seize this opportunity and make a lasting impact on the upcoming election?
