Ukraine’s Minister Praises Crypto

Ukraine Blocks Cryptocurrency Wallets That Were Used to Finance the Russian Invasion

Ukraine’s Vice President and Minister of Digital Information, Mykhailo Fedorov, tweeted on Sunday that with the help of cryptocurrency collected by Ukraine in the form of donations, the country is able to provide help to frontline workers by providing “200 sets of ballistic plates of 4 class for bulletproof vests”.

He hopes that the country will soon come out victorious as its soldiers are well-equipped thanks to cryptocurrency.

Donations continue to pour into Ukraine

Since the beginning of the conflict, the Ukrainian government has received more than $100 million in cryptocurrency donations.

Despite the fact that this is a pittance in comparison to the billions of dollars in aid from the IMF and other western governments, Ukraine’s deputy minister of digital transformation told the Financial Times that cryptocurrency had become an “essential tool of war,” allowing flexibility and speed.

A slew of crypto platforms has recently emerged, taking donations in cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and NFTs.

For example, Michael Chobanian, the founder of the Ukrainian crypto exchange Kuna, told the Associated Press that his company is “still collecting crypto” to help Ukrainians.
