In a shocking revelation to the crypto community, Ron Branstetter, founder of the popular meme coin, Unicorn Fart Dust (UFD), disclosed during an emergency livestream that his Phantom wallet was maliciously hacked. As a result, $6.6 million worth of UFD tokens, Solana, and other crypto assets were stolen.
Branstetter, visibly shaken, conveyed his distress but reaffirmed his resolute commitment to the UFD project. He first became aware of the hack after noticing UFD’s price fluctuations and ensuing community concerns. After updating his wallet, he was met with the chilling realization that his funds had vanished.
“Somebody has drained all 6.6 million of the Unicorn Fart Dust tokens that were in there and the Solana that had been generously donated to us,” Branstetter disclosed, his voice heavy with emotion. He vehemently denied any involvement in the sudden UFD price drop, stating, “I did not sell. I did not make a decision to get out of this. My wallet was hacked.”
Branstetter made reference to a previous hack associated with the project, but this recent breach left him baffled, as he had adhered to all recommended security protocols. He expressed regret over not having moved his assets into cold storage.
According to CoinGecko data, UFD is currently trading at $0.139, a significant drop of 19.1% over the past 72 hours. The token’s market capitalization stands at an approximate $133.2 million.
During the livestream, Branstetter sought to reassure his supporters, affirming his belief in the project and its community. “Nothing has changed about Unicorn Fart Dust,” he proclaimed, emphasizing the bonds and shared experiences that the token has fostered.
Branstetter, a gold and silver enthusiast and the force behind the YouTube channel Rons Basement, initially regarded cryptocurrencies with skepticism. He coined the term “Unicorn Fart Dust” as a parody of crypto and fiat currencies’ intangibility. However, his creation of UFD on Solana’s Pump.fun launchpad, intended as a commentary on the chaos of the crypto space, morphed into an unexpected viral sensation, fuelled by the enthusiasm of his community.
In a previous interview with Decrypt, Branstetter recounted his incredulous reaction to the meteoric rise of UFD, which went from a negligible market cap of $7,000 to a remarkable $420 million in a matter of weeks. His initial $100 investment transformed into a fortune, but he refrained from liquidating most of his holdings, developing a deep connection to the burgeoning UFD community.
What began as a satirical joke evolved into a vibrant community, embracing the UFD’s playful spirit and the motto “Good attracts good.” It was this sense of unity and shared belief that altered Branstetter’s perception of the crypto world. Despite the recent hack, Branstetter remains steadfast in his commitment to the UFD project, embodying the community’s resilient spirit.
