Aerodrome and Velodrome Merge Into Aero on Oct. 21

Aerodrome Finance and Velodrome will combine into Aero, a single cross-chain exchange, on Oct. 21. The migration is not automatic. Users who self-custody AERO, VELO, veAERO or veVELO must use the upgrade portals at aerodrome.finance or velodrome.finance. Those portals open at Oct. 22, 00:00 UTC, which is Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.

Swap rates and supply

AERO converts one-for-one into new AERO. VELO converts at about 0.044 new AERO per token. The project bases that rate on projected launch supply: roughly 1.99 billion new AERO from Aerodrome and 116 million from Velodrome, or about 2.11 billion total. Aerodrome holders get 94.5% of the new supply; Velodrome holders get 5.5%. Because the final rate depends on supply at launch, the team calls it approximate.

What holders need to do

Before upgrading, holders should claim unclaimed rewards and rebases and clear active votes. Anything left unclaimed cannot be recovered later, the project says. xVELO must first be bridged back to OP Mainnet. Users also need a small amount of ETH for fees: ETH on Base for Aerodrome and ETH on OP Mainnet for Velodrome. veNFTs that voted in the final epoch can upgrade one hour later, at Oct. 22, 01:00 UTC.

Locks carry over. Remaining lock time is rounded up to the next full week. Permanent locks become maximum-duration stakes. veAERO and veVELO become sAERO, a staked form that directs rewards and earns exchange revenue as it accrues. sAERO also replaces weekly voting with real-time allocation, with a 47-hour cooldown on initial allocation changes.

Seven networks and exchange support

Aero will run on Base, Ethereum mainnet, OP Mainnet, Arc, Ink, Robinhood Chain and Arbitrum. Aerodrome is a major venue on Base, while Velodrome plays a similar role on Optimism. Both were built by Dromos Labs on shared code. Merging them creates one venue across seven chains instead of two competing ones. Aero says it coordinated with major exchanges, and Binance confirmed on Oct. 16 that it will support the swap.

The final voting round closes Oct. 21 at 6:59 p.m. ET. The new AERO contract address will be published through official Aero channels on launch day. Transfers and trading open at upgrade. Holders should check any address against those official channels before approving a transaction.
