Cardano Founder Urges Engineering Collaboration With Ethereum Community

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson says he is open to a stronger engineering relationship with Ethereum. In a recent interview, he argued the two blockchain networks could share technological ideas without turning it into a financial deal.

Why Hoskinson Sees a Shared Path

Hoskinson believes Ethereum developers have something to gain by looking at Cardano’s smart contract work. Cardano has spent years building a way to run smart contracts on a UTXO-based chain, and he thinks that approach could give Ethereum developers new options. He also says it could make cross-network development easier, especially for projects like Midnight that are connected to Cardano.

At the same time, he thinks Cardano could benefit if Ethereum adopted some of its ideas. That would allow developers to move between networks more freely and create a more connected development space. For him, this is not about money or resolving old arguments. It is about recognizing useful technology and being willing to experiment.

No Money, No Need to Revisit Old Fights

Hoskinson was careful to describe the proposed cooperation as academic and engineering focused. Neither side would need to transfer funds. Neither side would need to apologize for past disagreements. He said both communities could simply acknowledge each other’s contributions and move forward.

He also pushed back on the idea that Cardano and Ethereum cannot work together. In his view, there is no reason for designers and engineers to stay separated. If Ethereum developers worked directly with Cardano engineers, he suggested, they could build the needed integration in a matter of months. Personal conflicts or old technical debates should not stand in the way.

The UTXO Debate Is Still Hovering

This is not happening in a vacuum. The conversation follows renewed interest in UTXO-style designs within the Ethereum community. In July, an Ethereum researcher put forward a proposal exploring native UTXO-based payment designs. The proposal caught the attention of Cardano supporters, because it echoed principles Cardano already uses in its Extended UTXO model.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, though, credited Bitcoin as the inspiration for Ethereum’s UTXO exploration. He did not directly mention Cardano’s work. Hoskinson initially pushed back on that, given how long Cardano has used the EUTXO model. Still, his latest comments suggest he wants to move past that kind of dispute.

He now seems more interested in what the two networks can build together than in who gets credit. That may be a good sign for people who want more interoperability between major blockchain networks. It may also be a reminder that technical conversations can continue even when tensions exist.

Still, Hoskinson is not asking anyone to abandon their project. He is simply saying that both networks have useful engineering experience, and that sharing it could unlock options they have not fully explored.
