Drake Bets $1M in Bitcoin on Patriots Through Stake Platform

Drake’s Big Super Bowl Bet

Drake just placed a $1 million wager on the New England Patriots to win Super Bowl LX. What makes this interesting, I think, is that he did it through Stake, a cryptocurrency betting platform where he serves as a brand ambassador. The bet was revealed on Instagram on February 7th, showing Drake backing the Patriots on the moneyline at roughly +195 odds. If New England pulls off the upset, he stands to win about $2.95 million.

But here’s the thing: this bet goes against the grain. Most betting markets have the Patriots as clear underdogs heading into the championship game. Seattle is favored by around 4.5 points, and the moneyline suggests Seattle has close to a two-to-one advantage. Collectively, markets give New England about one-in-three odds of winning.

The Drake Curse Returns

Almost immediately after Drake shared his bet, social media lit up with talk of the “Drake Curse.” This is that pattern where teams or athletes he publicly supports often end up losing. Patriots fans seemed worried about the potential jinx, while Seahawks supporters celebrated what they saw as a guaranteed win.

Drake’s betting history is actually pretty mixed when you look at it. He won $1.15 million backing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII last year. But he’s also had some costly losses on NBA Finals bets, tennis wagers, and other major sporting events. The record isn’t consistently bad or good—it’s just inconsistent enough to keep the curse debate alive.

Crypto’s Growing Role in Sports Betting

What might be more significant here is the platform choice. By using Stake, Drake highlights how cryptocurrency platforms are becoming more visible in high-stakes sports betting. These global platforms operate differently than traditional sportsbooks, and they’re blurring lines between entertainment, finance, and fandom.

From a pure betting perspective, Drake’s wager is a contrarian play. He’s going against what nearly all major markets suggest. But betting at this scale has never really been about following the crowd. It’s about conviction, or maybe just about making a statement.

Super Bowl LX is expected to generate about $1.76 billion in total betting volume according to the American Gaming Association. High-profile celebrity bets have become more common as legalized wagering spreads across the U.S., but Drake’s wagers always seem to attract extra attention.

More Than Just a Game

This particular Super Bowl marks a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX from 2015, when the Patriots famously beat the Seahawks. The roles are reversed this time, with New England entering as the clear underdog.

Whether Drake’s bet ends in a massive profit or becomes another chapter in the Drake Curse legend, it’s already accomplished something: turning one person’s wager into a major storyline of its own. When the game ends, the result will decide more than just who gets the Lombardi Trophy—it might also settle whether the Drake Curse is real or just superstition.

I find it interesting how these celebrity bets create their own narratives around major sporting events. They add another layer of drama to games that already have plenty of it. And with crypto platforms like Stake involved, the whole dynamic keeps evolving in ways that feel pretty new.
