Welcome to the Darker Side of Augmented Reality: Now Metaverse can strip off your identity!

The Nasscom report has stated that while the large-scale

Metaverse’s foundation is strictly based on the pillars of AR (Augmented Reality). With some exciting developments in AR, we can also expect some interesting changes to the algorithm of Metaverse.

The word “metaverse” gained popularity when the CEO of Facebook announced that he was changing the social media giant’s name to “Meta”. According to industry experts, this change could be regarded as a strong shift in strategy.

The Metaverse will indulge in some interesting aspects of the internet by introducing its audience to 3D graphics, AR, VR, 5G connectivity, NFT, holograms, haptic sensors, blockchain, and, of course, the most important part—Artificial Intelligence.

Risks associated with the introduction of Augmented Reality

As per the research reports from the experts, it could become even easier for the hackers to steal the identities of the users of Metaverse if there is a simple glitch in the security measures.

In the real world, identity theft is already a multibillion-dollar business. In just the previous month, a company had to pay off $24 billion to save themselves from losing the identity of their clients.

The black hole in Metaverse could hugely affect teenagers and children. There have already been several reports of teens committing suicide after being influenced by mobile games.

And with the introduction of a new world of augmented reality where one’s identity could mean everything, we might be stepping into a bigger and riskier state, where children could face difficulty differentiating the virtual world from the real one.

Facebook CEO introduces Future Metaverse Applications

Since Mark Zuckerberg announced his intention to change Facebook’s name to Meta, they have constantly been working on instilling different aspects of Metaverse into the social media platform.

One recent development was the ability for people to create their own avatars, which could be used for social interaction and have applications in a variety of fields.

Also, several videos have been discovered that showcase these avatars’ futuristic possibilities and include certain iterations of their VR headsets.

Meta has also committed to introducing a new possibility in medical science. Through the VR headsets, the medicos could practice their surgeries on 3D organs virtually before facing a real surgery.

Although the concept might seem to be very appealing at the moment, the security risks of identity theft cannot be ignored. Several social engineering attacks could be imposed on the Metaverse as hackers can use digital duplicates to overlap with the VR of another individual’s experience.
