Keanu Reeves and Cyberpunk 2077 now coming to you in …. Well, September.
The neon cyberpunk game, Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released on 17th September which was initially supposed to come out in April. While the developers assure the players the game is supposedly complete but the extra time is needed for more polish and refinement. Fans are sad about the delay but at least they will have more trailers and gameplay footage served to them in the following months.
The game developer, CD Projekt Red, announced that the delay was communicated to the rest of the studio also just “minutes” before the delay’s formal announcement.
The exec Adam Kiciński has this to say about the delay:
“Why now? Why three months before release? Well, we have been waiting and there always comes the moment to decision. We are constantly evaluating the game and we decided if we are to delay this is the right moment, and that with the decision to add five months we would be really sure that we can deliver what we had planned.
Of course, it was a tough decision, but we and our team – which was informed minutes ago – think that this was a good decision and that having an extra five months will enable us to deliver a perfect game.”
Adam also told the fans that while some of the things are on schedule, there were indeed some things that were lagging behind. The game also suffers from a lot of bugs currently and the time was needed to make the gameplay a smoother experience.
This is not the first time the game developer has delayed things. CD Projekt Red has suffered with development crunch in the past.
The dominos don’t stop here. All of this will have a drastic effect on the studio’s other projects as well. Another Cyberpunk project in production is a multiplayer game which won’t see the light of day until next year now.
Fans will have to wait for the massive open world dystopian RPG for a while. Night City, it seems, will have to wait too.
