The acquisition cost according to the press release of Facebook states that it is a staggering $78 million US Dollars (70 million euros). The main reason behind the acquisition of PlayGiga is to spread facebook’s new venture into gaming onto more serious grounds. The purchase was confirmed by facebook to CNBC initially along with the pricing as well.

PlayGiga had a good deal:

PlayGiga had a message on their website stating, “Moving onto something new” started to change things around for the users of PlayGiga. The firm is not as huge as it seems but had pretty good profits operating in the four regions. The company had plans for expansion until Facebook acquired them and the same is going to be carried out by facebook. The expansion plans included in the areas in the middle east, Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, and Guatemala. The cloud service provider had a powerful 300 games library that caught the eye of Facebook. However, Facebook hasn’t released any statements regarding creating their own gaming cloud with the Acquisition. With 700 million users to date, Facebook is definitely planning something huge within a short span making a dynamic shift in the gaming industry.

Facebook’s recent venture into gaming is a huge mystery to unravel for its competitors, and with the recent acquisition of PlayGiga, something is definitely brewing around the corner.

Why into gaming?

The company started its venture into gaming with the introduction of the gaming tab in the search section of Facebook. From there slowly improved the curve into a collection of web-based instant games. They also moved plans with Oculus, a leading VR gaming company to expand their horizons in VR gaming as well.  Their recent movement in the field from facebook is into providing quality content in the gaming sector.
